Watch the birdy!

Earlier this month we provided aerial lifting solutions to the RSPB in North Wales, where they required our aerial lifting skills to relocate wooden bird hides to a remote island location ready for the busy bird watching season.

Our expert aerial lifting crew and the team at the RSPB North Wales worked quickly and efficiently ensuring the protected area had minimal disruption.

Using the helicopter meant the delicate habitat was not subjected to numerous tractors, cranes, and diggers which would have destroyed much of the ground and consequently damaged the habitat for the ground nesting birds located in the area.

As with many jobs of this type it requires a coordinated effort and because the RSPB is so well supported across the UK, there was certainly no shortage of volunteers available to help get the job done! We also had to ensure that we were working in sync with the tides which affected the local area so the hides could be positioned in relatively dry conditions. For many of the volunteers it is the first time they had seen such an operation carried out by aerial lifting.

The hides themselves are often a sturdy construction and aerial lifting is just an ideal way to get the job done quickly and efficiently with minimum disruption at a critical time of year for nesting birds. The hides were replaced and the old ones removed minimising disruption to this sensitive site.

The team at the RSPB were delighted with the speed and efficiency of the operation and we look forward to helping them again in the future.

“Your team were great and the skills in taking the shed over and especially bringing the old one back was amazing to see!”
